How to Choose the Right Replacement Sliding Patio Door Handle
Before you buy a new handle, you must check a few key features on your current door to ensure the new one will fit.
Measure the Mounting Holes: This is the most critical step. Use a tape measure to find the distance from the center of the top screw hole to the center of the bottom screw hole. The replacement handle must have the same measurement.
Identify the Lock Type: Look at how your handle operates.
Mortise Style: Does it use a locking mechanism that is installed inside the edge of the door?
Clamp-On Style: Does it simply clamp onto the surface of the door frame?
Keyed: Does it have a key cylinder that passes through the handle?
Check the Latch Position: If your handle has a locking latch or switch, determine if it is positioned exactly in the center of the handle or if it is off-center. The new handle must match this configuration.
Keyhole Considerations: If you need a handle with a key lock, check if the replacement model comes pre-drilled for the key cylinder. Some handles have a "knockout" circle, but these often need to be drilled out yourself, so buying a pre-drilled version is easier.
